For my plan to travel solo Sri Lanka, I came up with this itinerary after some basic research:

3rd March. Day 0: Reach Colombo at around 11:30pm. Obtain Mobitel sim card and get  Currency exchanged. After that wait inside the airport till the bus to Colombo starts at around 4-5 am.

4th March. Day1: Catch a train (which departs at 6)/bus to Habarana/Dambulla.  Reach by Noon, go to Dambulla rock and come back.

5th March. Day2. Reserved for Sigriya. Keep luggage at hostel and roam around.

6th March.Day3. Head to Kandy by bus. Attend Kandy cultural show.

7th March.Day4. Head to Nuwara Eliya

8th March.Day 5. Go to Ella and trek through Ella Rock

9th March.Day6. Go to Unawatuna beach

10th March. Day 7. Pay Galle a visit

11th March.Day 8. Be in Colombo

12th March. Day 8. Be in Negombo to catch flight to Bangalore. Leave for Airport so as to reach by 12pm.
